About Paula Hendrickson

I’m Paula Hendrickson. Freelance feature writer, copywriter, and scriptwriter.

Every person, and every brand, has a story to tell.

And it’s my mission to help tell those stories in memorable ways.

My writing career launched in second grade when I reviewed my favorite television show for a class newsletter. Today, I write compelling feature articles for top entertainment trade publications including Emmy and Variety, and create jargon-free advertorial and custom content for companies like The Vitamin Shoppe, Amazon Prime Video, and AppleTV+. Be it a magazine article, a small business case study, or an annual trend report, I can help tell your story, too.

Experience Matters

Over the past 20+ years, I’ve learned vital lessons through writing personality profiles and feature articles for a wide assortment of consumer and trade publications, from Advertising Age to Pet Product News. I’ve applied those lessons to advertorial writing, ghostwriting, and copywriting, too.

Interviewing thousands of people taught me how to ask effective questions, listen carefully to answers, and make interviewees feel at ease. Keeping interviews conversational always leads to livelier quotes and deeper insights.

Writing hundreds of mini-profiles honed my ability to convey the essence of a person or brand as concisely as possible, while scriptwriting helped me truly understand the importance of an individual’s or a company’s voice.

Newer writers often boast about writing ten or more articles per week, but chances are they’re cutting corners— like using quotes gleaned from social media posts or published articles instead of doing original research and actual interviews. I never cut corners. Locating sources and conducting one-on-one interviews are core parts of my job.

When you hire me, you might not get copy turned around in one day, but you will get well-written, engaging articles or advertorials based on my own conversations with the parties involved, whether they’re celebrities, CEOs, or everyday business owners.

What Clients Have to Say

Curious what it’s like to work with me? See what a few clients have to say,

“Paula wrote for my magazine [Cablevision] regularly for several years, and I quickly came to rely on her for her consummate professionalism. Her work always came in on time, well-written and thoroughly researched and reported. I never heard anything but good things about her from the people she interviewed. I am delighted to recommend her without reservation.” — Rick Schindler, Senior Editor, TodayShow.com

“A resourceful reporter and engaging writer, Paula regularly juggles assignments that can feel like herding cats with professionalism and pizzazz. Her work for Cablefax: The Magazine requires she track down numerous contacts for executive profiles and condense sizable quantities of information into succinct stories, at times under the kind of deadline others would balk at. Her response is always “Yes” and the work she delivers is on time and in excellent shape. To boot, she’s a very nice person.” — Cathy Applefeld Olson, Editor, Cablefax: The Magazine

“Paula is a freelancer I relied upon frequently to deliver long-format features for our national trade magazine [Point-of-Purchase]. She conducted interviews with marketing, creative, and advertising execs and consistently turned out well-written feature stories ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 words. Her features covered the strategy and implementation of their in-store advertising campaigns and frequently were featured on our cover. Her stories required minimal editing and she always worked within our production schedule. It was a pleasure to work with such a reliable, professional, and talented writer.” — Laurie Najjar, former editor, Point-of-Purchase
